Our Purpose

Horses of Hope / Caballos de Esperanza Inc., is a therapeutic riding center, located in beautiful Isabela, Puerto Rico.
Our mission is to engage the therapeutic power of our horses to nurture the special abilities of people with disabilities, help heal those suffering from trauma, and empower our clients to improve the quality of their lives, their families' lives, and their community. We provide life-changing therapeutic riding, equine education, and equine-assisted activities and have programs suitable for children (4 years and up) to adults of all ages.
Our therapeutic riding instructors are certified through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH, Int'l). We follow their standards of safety, which are the highest in the world, for clients, volunteers, horses, and staff.
Our equine-assisted services are based on current research and outcomes in the industry.
We are a registered non-profit charitable organization in Puerto Rico as well as a 501(c)(3) federal nonprofit.
Our Beliefs
Horses of Hope’s Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT) services are built on a foundation of respect, empathy, trust, and cooperation. This creates empowerment for humans and equines alike.
We work to build success for each individual by addressing their unique abilities and helping them meet their needs and goals physically, emotionally, cognitively and socially.
Our environment is positive, welcoming to everyone and supportive. We also follow the highest standards in the industry so it can be safe for all.
Through the combination of our equines, volunteers and instructors, we transform “I can’t” into “I CAN” for our clients. The collaboration of our students' goals, PATH Intl. Certified Instructors, trained volunteers, and amazing equine partners help people to recognize all they can do for themselves and others.

Our History
Horses of Hope / Caballos de Esperanza, Inc. is a therapeutic riding and equine‑assisted learning center founded in 2018 in western Puerto Rico. Born from the resilience that followed Hurricane Maria, the organization was created to ensure that children and adults with disabilities, trauma histories, and developmental challenges could access life‑changing services — regardless of their ability to pay.
What began on four acres of storm‑damaged land has grown into a sanctuary where horses, families, and community come together to heal. For the first four years, the organization operated entirely with volunteers, guided by founder Elaine Cosby, who brought her expertise as a therapeutic riding instructor, equine specialist, and speech‑language pathologist to every session.
Through hurricanes, the pandemic, relocations, and profound losses, one commitment has never wavered: to transform “I can’t” into “I CAN” for every person who walks through our gates.
Horses of Hope is more than a program. It is a place where hope is rebuilt, one stride at a time.
